Talison CGP2 Expansion – SMP Works

Project Overview:

The Chemical Grade Plant 2 (CGP2) expansion at Greenbushes aimed to significantly increase the production of lithium oxide concentrates, addressing the rising global demand for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and consumer electronics. Altrad (formerly AGC) was awarded the SMP contract, playing a vital role in constructing the infrastructure needed for this strategic project.

Scope:

  • Installation of over 2,000 tonnes of structural steel, including flooring and cladding systems.
  • Installation of approximately 70 tonnes of platework.
  • Placement and integration of around 450 pieces of mechanical equipment.
  • Coordination of electrical and instrumentation integration through Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE).
  • Collaboration with multiple project stakeholders to ensure seamless execution and alignment with the project’s objectives.

Manning:

  • Peak onsite workforce of 140 personnel (200 total employed)
  • Expertise in structural, mechanical, and piping installations

Outcomes:

  • Successfully delivered structural, mechanical, and piping installations within the scheduled timeframe.
  • Played a critical role in expanding lithium production capacity at Greenbushes, supporting global clean energy and technology markets.
  • Maintained high safety and quality standards throughout the project, ensuring compliance with industry requirements.
  • Strengthened Altrad’s reputation as a reliable partner for delivering complex infrastructure projects in the mining and energy sectors.
